Community Development
The Community Development Department includes Planning and Zoning, Economic Development and Grant Writing personnel.
Planning and Zoning staff administer the City Code, Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances and the Comprehensive Plan. They serve as technical advisors on planning and zoning issues, which are brought before the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council. Their primary responsibility is to oversee growth and development for the City.
Economic Development staff actively work to attract new businesses as well as support existing business growth. The assistance we provide to businesses large and small translates into job opportunities and increased in the tax base. We work to utilize local resources to enhance economic opportunities while improving our community in a sustainable way that preserves the character of Mountain Home.
The City of Mountain Home Grant Writer actively seeks ways to improve City services, infrastructure and resident quality of life, while maximizing the value of taxpayer dollars through grant opportunities.

Back to TopMaster Transportation Plan
The City of Mountain Home is working to update our Master Transportation Plan. This plan will guide the city's transportation needs for the next 20 years. This includes what major roadways to upgrade, what intersections to adjust, where to put pathways and more importantly when to implement these changes. If we can plan for the future, we can possibly save major headaches down the road.
The Master Transportation Plan committee is made up of city employees, professionals in the transportation field as well as citizens from all walks of life. The plan is currently in its data collecting phase and no firm time-frames for implementation are available at this time but will be updated when available.
The City of Mountain Home just recently closed its initial kick off survey for the Master Transportation Plan and you can view those results here: Survey Results.
Downtown Revitalization
The City of Mountain Home, in partnership with the Mountain Home Urban Renewal Agency, has worked to develop a Downtown Master Plan since early 2017. After approximately one year of collaboration and public input, the Master Plan was adopted by City Council on March 26, 2018. While the Master Plan has been adopted by City Council, it does not mean that it must be implemented exactly as it appears. It does, however, show the level of commitment from the City to improve and address major issues and safety hazards in the downtown core. The Master Plan, still in its planning phase and remains flexible based on budget, time constraints and citizen input. At this time, citizen concerns are still being received and addressed. The next step for the Master Plan will be engineering. Once completed, the engineering will go to the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) for approval before construction can begin. No firm time-frames for implementation are available at this time but will be updated when available.

Access Study - Idaho Transportation Department
The Idaho Transportation Department continues to work with the City of Mountain Home to assess future growth and needs for mobility in the area. ITD held an Open House in Mountain Home on May 1, 2018 to present concepts of an Interchange Redesign and Access Study. You can review the proposed concepts from ITD on their story map link. Mountain Home Industrial Park & Rail
Mountain Home Mayor Rich Sykes (4th from left) and Commander, 366th Fighter Wing, Col. Joseph Kunkel (5th from left) met May 3 to discuss current progress and the way forward regarding the conveyance of the Air Force rail spur to the City of Mountain Home. Also pictured are key personnel from the City of Mountain Home, Mountain Home Air Force Base, and the Air Force Civil Engineer Center at Lackland AFB, TX, who will be involved in the transfer. Congress authorized the conveyance with the passing of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2018. There are still tasks to complete in the coming months, including the ongoing land survey and upcoming environmental and historical studies. The Economic Development office estimates the rail spur will be owned by the City in about one year if all goes well. More information to follow.
