Resources & Updates

The EPA provides crucial support to Mountain Home by: Setting and enforcing drinking water standards to protect public health Offering technical assistance and funding for water/wastewater infrastructure improvements Providing resources for addressing stormwater management and pollution prevention Supporting compliance with air quality regulations Assisting with brownfield assessment and cleanup for redevelopment opportunities Offering grants and technical expertise for environmental projects Ensuring proper management of hazardous materials and waste Providing guidance on environmental regulations to help the city maintain compliance The EPA serves as both a regulatory body and supportive partner in protecting Mountain Home's environmental resources and public health.

Drinking Water Regulations

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) establishes enforceable limits on more than 90 contaminants in public drinking water supplies. These regulatory thresholds are designed to safeguard public health while remaining technically achievable for water systems using current treatment technologies. Additionally, EPA regulations specify mandatory testing protocols, including sampling schedules and analytical methods, that all water systems must implement to ensure compliance. Under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), states have the authority to develop and enforce their own drinking water regulations, provided these standards meet or exceed the protective threshold established by EPA's national requirements.

community water system service area boundary

Clearly defined service area boundaries for community water systems create essential connections between water infrastructure data and the populations being served. This linkage enables more effective: Public health protection through targeted monitoring and response Resource allocation based on community-specific needs and vulnerabilities Integration of water system performance metrics with demographic information Evidence-based research to advance drinking water safety and affordability State and federal databases track extensive information about water system operations and compliance. By properly mapping service areas, agencies can contextualize this technical data within the broader community landscape. This integrated approach enhances decision-making at all governmental levels, ultimately improving water quality, system reliability, and public health outcomes for communities.
