Animal Control

Who We Are and What We Do

The City of Mountain Home Animal Control Center is overseen by the Investigations Bureau of the City of Mountain Home Police Department (MHPD). The animal control center services Mountain Home as well as its area of impact. The animal control center is in charge of caring for stray animals until adopted, as well as responding to animal control calls. We are open to the public Monday through Saturday. MHPD responds to all after-hours animal calls including animal bites and stray dogs.  

Volunteering

We gladly accept volunteers 14 years of age and older! An adult must accompany 14-17 year olds at ALL times. You may volunteer Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We recommend calling in advance to check availability.

Animal Control

Services included but not limited to stray dogs, animal welfare and neglect, animal nuisance complaints and animal ordinance compliance. The Mountain Home Animal Shelter does not have jurisdiction outside of the city limits. Adoption

The animal control center provides stray holds and adoption services for dogs and cats. Typically, stray animals are held for a minimum of 7 days in order to give their owners time to reunite with them. It also helps ensure the animal is in good health before being placed for adoption. After the stray hold, the animal is put up for public adoption. Our adoption fee is $30.00 and half price discount for those over 55 years of age. The animal is required to be fixed within 60 days of adoption, as required by city ordinance. If a specific type of animal is not available at the time, a special request can be entered into our “Pets Wanted” binder. This binder is maintained to enable contact with a potential adopter when an animal matching the request becomes available at the shelter. Lost and Found

The Animal control center keeps a record of lost and found pets. Please contact us immediately if you have lost or found a pet. It is the goal of the Mountain Home Animal Control Center to return all strays entering the shelter to their owners and to provide assistance to those who have lost pets or to individuals who have found animals.

City Tags

You can purchase city tags through the center as well. City tags are required if you live within the city limits. They are good from January 1st – December 31st of every year. The fees are as follows: Dog Spayed or Neutered $10.00 Non-Spayed or Non-Neutered $20.00 Cat  Spayed or Neutered $ 5.00 Non-Spayed or Non-Neutered $10.00 Proof of current Rabies vaccination paperwork is required to complete registration.

We are your one stop shop! We have a personal pet ID engraver. Small tags are $5 large are $10.
