Code Enforcement
Back to TopCode Enforcement
The City of Mountain Home has adopted local laws which are designed to promote the health, safety and welfare of our citizens. The code establishes guidelines for safe and attractive residential neighborhoods and commercial districts.
The city enforces these codes through our full time code enforcement officer, as well as, on a complaint basis, such as a concerned citizen who calls in, by neighborhood inspections, or staff who may become aware of an issue while traveling through the area. Complaints can be made in person, via e-mail, by telephone or through written documentation.
Code Enforcement has Idaho Uniform Citation Authority. Please keep in mind that even though you may not own the property, you are still responsible for complying with the ordinances and codes of the City of Mountain Home.
Violation Process
-
Code violations are reported to our Code Enforcement officer
-
A file is started and pictures of the property are taken; violations are organized by addresses.
-
A letter is sent to the property owner and/or occupant explaining the violation, listing the city’s applicable code sections and stating the required compliance deadline of 10 days or 30 days depending on violation, from the date of the letter.
-
The site is re-inspected. If the violation is corrected, the file is closed. If the violation still exists, then a final violation is sent to the owner and/or occupant via certified mail allowing another 10 days or 30 days to rectify the violation or the matter is turned over to the prosecuting attorney.
-
In addition, the city may abate a property nuisance by hiring a private contractor to correct the issue. The abatement of the nuisance shall be at the expense of the property owner.
For more information, please view the city codes or contact the Code Enforcement Officer.
