Volunteer Opportunities

Thousands of hours of volunteer assistance are given each year through activities such as coaching youth sports programs, adding with special events, and helping with projects in the parks. Many programs and services would not be possible without the assistance of committed volunteers.

Benefits to Volunteering

Becoming a volunteer for the Mountain Home Recreation Department offers great personal benefits, including a sense of accomplishment, personal growth, and a sense of ownership in the community.

Volunteers experience personal satisfaction knowing that their efforts are helping to improve the quality of life in the great community of Mountain Home. Volunteers may also gain valuable knowledge and experience that can assist them in realizing personal, educational or professional goals.

 

Who Can Volunteer? 

Anyone!

Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes; they could be college students, high school students, youth groups, scout groups, social groups, church groups, civic organizations, business groups or individuals, anyone wishing to volunteer their time and talent. Young volunteers are welcome but must be at least 16 years old to volunteer without being accompanied by an adult.

All volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent/ guardian sign a waiver form before volunteering. Coaches for youth sports teams must be a minimum of 16 years old and have positive references available.

Youth Soccer Coaches

Use your talents to encourage, guide and train young athletes, ages 4 to 12! This league features two practices and one game each week. Practices should include drills to help children develop motor skills and improve coordination. Most importantly, City of Mountain Home soccer leagues emphasize teamwork, fair play, self-confidence, and fun. All kids play! Volunteer coaches are guided and trained to work with children, build skills, and encourage character development.

  • Fall season runs August-October
  • Spring season runs March-May

Youth T-Ball and Softball Coaches

For many, the summer would not be complete without T-ball or softball. We need positive individuals willing to volunteer 3-4 hours each week to help the children in our community learn the sports of softball and t-ball. The City of Mountain Home Parks and Recreation department softball program is designed for youth 8 – 13 years old. Practices are held four nights per week initially. After that, games are played two evenings per week. The program lasts for approximately 4 weeks.

Youth Basketball Coaches 

Coaching a youth basketball team can be a very rewarding experience. Volunteer coaches create a positive and fun atmosphere where children can improve their skills and enjoy the benefits of being part of a team. The City of Mountain Home Recreation Department youth basketball program is a recreational league designed for boys and girls, 1st – 6thgrade. We need volunteer coaches with a positive attitude and a desire to help children in order to make our basketball program a success. Practices are held two evenings each week and games are played on Saturdays. This program lasts for eight weeks.

Community Service

City of Mountain Home Parks & Recreation have opportunities for individuals to complete community service requirements. A multitude of maintenance, cleaning, and organization tasks can be undertaken. If you are interested in completing a community service project, or in need of completing community service hours, please download one of the form below that best fits what you are wanting to do or call the Parks & Recreation office at (208) 587-2112 for more information.
